- A biennial
- Common names: Dame’s Violet, Queen’s Gilliflower, Summer Lilac, Sweet Rocket, Mother-of-the-Evening.
- Member of the Mustard family
- Flowers are very fragrant - especially in the evening – and are insect pollinated.
- Produces a rosette in the first year of growth and then a flowering bolt in the second year.
- Blooms early summer, withers and dies by late summer.
