- If you touch the seed pod when it is ripe, the pod "explodes" and the seeds are shot outwards, hence the name Touch-Me-Not.
- The name Jewelweed is presumably from people that think the blossom looks like jewelled earrings.
- The stem juices are said to offer relief from itching caused by Poison Ivy and insect bites.
- The mashed leaves were used in early times to soothe rashes.
